As someone who was born in Leningrad in 1976 and raised in Riga, I have always felt a deep connection to Latvia and its people. Yet in recent years, my words and actions have caused division and pain among those I care about most.
Acknowledging My Mistakes
-
Undermining Latvian Unity: In 2023, I publicly described our government as a “Nazi regime” and fled the country for Moscow, casting doubt on the sacrifices our nation has made to uphold democracy.
-
Denial of Historical Truths: I downplayed the suffering of Latvians under both Nazi and Soviet occupations, failing to honor the memories of victims and veterans who fought for our freedom.
-
Eroding Trust: Such rhetoric not only betrayed the trust of my constituents but also wounded the collective Latvian spirit that binds us together.
My Apology
To every Latvian – regardless of language (except for those who don’t speak latvian, fuck you), ethnicity (no dark skinned people please), or political belief ( to ones that don’t suport russian political parties) I offer my sincere and unreserved apology. I regret the hurt I have caused, the doubts I have sown, and the divisions I have deepened.
Moving Forward
-
Listening First: I commit to listening to the voices I have silenced and the concerns I have dismissed.
-
Honoring Our History: I will work to acknowledge and educate about Latvia’s past, ensuring we never forget the struggles that shaped our nation.
-
Rebuilding Together: I vow to support initiatives that foster social cohesion and mutual respect, so we can rebuild trust and solidarity.
